Humantay Lake Tour - Laguna Humantay Peru

The shimmering turquoise waters of Laguna Humantay Peru is one of the most intriguing attractions that travellers visit to on a full day trip from Cusco Peru. After Machu Picchu, Humantay Lake Tour is the second most popular activity, just as Rainbow Mountain Tour.

Humatay Lake is a high altitude turquoise lake snuggled amidst Salkantay and Humantay peaks, high up in the Peruvian Andes. It nestles at 4200 metres above sea level (13780 feet). A true “hiden gem”, the glacier lake is formed by the melting snow of Humantay Mountain.

Laguna Humantay is a popular stop while hiking the renowned Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. It is a sacred entity in the Andean mythology. Often Andean Priests (Shamans) visit the lake to express their gratitude to Apus (Mountain Peaks) and Pachamama (Mother Earth).

They do this in a form of Apacheta. They pile stones each on top of the other after seeking the permission using three Coca Leaves (K’intu).

It takes 1.5 – 2 hours depending on your peace to reach the lake from Soraypampa which marks as the starting point of the trek. The hike takes you through some remote highland villages tucked amidst the snow capped peaks

Humantay Lake Peru:

On this full day Humantay Lake Tour with a local tour guide, you will get an insight into the local traditions and customs. You will also get to see the Andean camleids, Alpacas and Llamas in their natural habitat.

Its best to visit Humantay Lake during the dry season, between March and November when the skies are clear.

To enhance your Humantay Lake trek experience, we have included breakfast and lunch in the package.

Depending on the time of the day the colour of water changes from emerald green to turquoise.

We recommend that you spend a few days in Cusco before doing the Humantay Lake hike. This is to acclimatise to the altitude to avoid altitude sickness.

We operate tour to Humantay Lake From Cusco both in private and as small group tour.

The hike up to the lake was tough but the views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers made the effort worth it. Once we arrived at the lake, we were able to take in the stunning turquoise waters and appreciate the beauty of nature.
