It is located about 7 km. southwest of Maras and 53 km from Cusco with an altitude of 3,385 m.s.n.m; it is a unique archaeological group in the region. These are gigantic natural holes that were used by the Inkas who built terraces or agricultural platforms with their respective irrigation channels, it is therefore a prototype greenhouse, the greatest hole has depth of 150 mts and average platform height is 1.80 mts., between each of them.
The structures found here are inkas, it is also estimated that the bottom is on a natural rock formation that facilitates the filtration into the earth, so there are no floods in the rainy season. What is striking is the difference in average annual temperature between the top and bottom, it is a difference that reaches up to 15°C. In this place is where incredible advances in agriculture were obtained.
Located in the province of Urubamba at 3300 m.s.n.m. from there you can appreciate the mountain range of the Vilcanota and the snowy summits: “El Chikón” (5530 m.s.n.m), “Putukisi” “La Verónica” (5682 m.s.n.m). Today this picturesque town keeps attractions of the pre-Hispanic, colonial and republican period, highlighting in the town streets and colonial covers with coats of arms of the nobles and caciques of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
Located to the northwest of the town of Maras, in this place we can find more than 3 thousand salt pools, which were already exploited from the inkanato as a means of economic exchange and is still exploited by the locals. They indicate that the mountain has in its interior salt mines, a spring of salt water that emanates from said mountain, serves during the dry season to fill the wells in the form of “irrigation” every 3 days with salt water for a month, so that it gradually solidifies, the process for the consumption of the region is followed.
The village of Ollantaytambo, also known as “Living Inka City”, for the presence of many original vestiges of the Inka era, such as its streets with oroginal canals, on which currently still flow the water channeled from the snowy, the archaeological park of Ollantaytambo is considered as a religious, administrative, political center of great importance, with streets, squares and Inca temples.
The archaeological complex of Pisac, is located on top of a mountain from where you have a panoramic view of the Sacred Valley. This wonderful place is formed by groups of platforms and architectural structures dispersed on the slopes and at the top of the mountain. Pisac is one of the most beautiful monumental centres of the valley as it combines the landscape with the impeccable finish of its constructions.
