Cusco to Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain Peru Tours

Cusco to Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain Peru tour is the second most popular full day tour after Machu Picchu. The seven coloured mountain, as the name suggests is a natural formation. At 5200 meters above sea level (17060 ft.), Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain is a part of the Vilcabamba Mountain Range.

The existence of Rainbow Mountain Peru was unknown to people until early 2016. It was covered in dense snow. As the snow started to melt the colors gradually started to appear. It soon became a prominent attraction in Cusco.

During the Cusco to Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain Peru Tours, you will also have plenty of opportunity to spot Alpacas, Llamas. Our tour guide will also give you an insight into the life of remote local communities. They live in the highlands and are untouched by modernity. They still converse in Quechua.

The full day Rainbow Mountain Tour is truly a rewarding experience. It is dotted with beautiful landscapes at every turn. The trek takes you through remote highland communities with a staggering view of snow capped Ausangate peak at a distance.

Ausangate peak is sacred to locals. They refer to it as Apus which when loosely translated in Quechua means Father. Every year hundreds of Andean pilgrims hike to the Ausangate Mountain in an occasion called Qollority.

To hike the Rainbow Mountain, it takes around 1.5 hours to get to the summit from the starting point of the trek. The hike is somewhat challenging especially because of the altitude.

We highly recommend that you spend a few days in Cusco before embarking on the Rainbow Mountain Peru Tour. You must acclimatize to avoid altitude sickness.

At Peru Ancestral, we have an excellent team of English speaking local tour guides. They have plenty of knowledge about the history and Andean traditions. Our guides are born and raised in the region and are trained in first aid.

The hike up to the mountain is challenging, but worth it, as the views of the surrounding countryside are absolutely stunning. The air is crisp and clear, and the silence of the mountain is peaceful.
